    TEACHER, TRAVELING/INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC, 3-6 GRADE
    (2025- 2026 School Year)

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • California credential to teach vocal and/or instrumental music
    • Bachelor's degree with music major or minor desirable
    • Ability to play at least one standard orchestral instrument, ability to play piano and/or guitar and sing
    • Ability to motivate children to perform in music

    REPORTS TO: Coordinator - Visual and Performing Arts

    JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil appreciation of art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening and reading music; to meet goals established in District's "Purposes of Instruction," Course of Study and Curriculum Guide in relationship to specific needs of all students under his/her direction

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • In cooperation with Coordinator - Visual and Performing Arts and other staff members, plans instructional objectives for assigned grade level or subject area consistent with Course of Study and Curriculum Guide which meet District's and school's educational goals. Objectives are to be established by October 15 of each year
    • Creates classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to maturity and interest of the students; participates with staff in establishing and maintaining effective learning climate within school; develops reasonable and specific rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in classroom in fair and just manner
    • Analyzes learning capacity of students and provides for their needs; plans balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within allotted time.
    • Guides learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear performance objectives as listed in Course of Study and Curriculum Guide for instrumental music for all lessons, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students
    • Instructs pupils in citizenship specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of school district
    • Makes referral to principal on pupils who demonstrate severe unsocial behavior patterns
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances
    • Keeps weekly records and evaluates each pupil's musical growth (practice slips) and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to performance of group; confers with colleagues, students, and parents regarding pupil progress as needed; assigns citizenship and scholarship marks
    • Maintains positive relationship with all staff and parents through "back-to-school" events, open house, classroom visitations, conferences, written communication, and work samples, so that parents and staff are aware of students' progress and adjustment
    • Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, P.T.A., District festival concert and civic functions
    • Plans, rehearses and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community; applies knowledge of District procedures and limitations set on performance
    • Instrumental music teachers provide individual and small group instructions in order to adapt curriculum to needs of each pupil
    • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for ages and skill levels of pupils
    • Controls storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required; has pianos tuned at least once a year
    • Selects and requisitions books, sheet music, musical instruments and instructional aids and supplies; maintains required inventory records
    • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems; makes referrals as required
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations including lesson schedule, attendance reports, Reports to Parents and annual report
    • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy
    • Carries out assigned pupil supervision outside classroom such as assemblies, and extra-curricular activities and fire and other emergency drills
    • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service meetings, curriculum development, materials evaluation, and Parent-Teacher Association
    • Maintains professional competence through inservice education provided by District and/or in self-selected growth activities related to music
    • Participates cooperatively with Coordinator - Visual and Performing Arts to develop method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines

    SALARY: Salary and work year to be according to current schedule: BCSD teacher salary schedule.
    $59,232 - $118,012 annually (182 day) All teacher salaries are contingent on verified years of experinece and education

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
