Job Title : Payroll Specialist

Reports To : Director of Human Resources

Job Classification : Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Balance Staffing is seeking a Payroll Specialist for our client. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated professional to join a growing team. The Payroll Specialist will play a key role in supporting Human Resources and payroll functions by ensuring the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll.

Shift Details :

Hours : 7 : 00 AM - 4 : 00 PM
Days : Monday - Friday

Key Responsibilities :

Scrutinize and verify timecards; collaborate with superintendents or foremen to address discrepancies.

Transfer hours from timecard tracking systems or paper timecards into the payroll platform.

Efficiently process payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

Generate reports to close and post payroll in accounting systems.

Prepare and submit labor compliance documents for public works projects.

Submit certified payroll reports to required systems (LCP Tracker, EMARS, DIR).

Onboard new field employees and maintain accurate records, including drug test results.

Manage benefits enrollments (insurance, 401(k), etc.) for field employees.

Address payroll-related inquiries, including deductions, time-off requests, and allowances.

Respond to government agency requests (e.g., EDD, Franchise Tax Board).

Assist employees and departments with payroll-related inquiries (e.g., missed hours, lost checks).

Maintain data correspondence across systems (Spectrum, Paylocity, HCSS).

Take on additional tasks and projects as needed.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Qualifications :

3-5 years of payroll experience.

Associate’s degree (AA) or Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.

Proficiency in MS Office suite.

Working Conditions :

Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and communicate.

Occasional need to reach with hands and arms.
