We are looking to hire an experienced Heavy Duty Technician to inspect, service, and repair a range of heavy-duty refuse equipment. As a Heavy Duty Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting trucks and equipment, carrying out services and conducting repairs in-house.
To ensure success as a heavy duty technician, you should have proven experience working with heavy machinery, be physically fit, and be able to troubleshoot issues. Ultimately, a top-notch heavy equipment mechanic can repair and service even the biggest machinery with expert care. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Works under limited supervision and selects from written instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Performs repair, inspection, and diagnosis, of electrical and hydraulic systems for vehicles and equipment.
- Performs work and repairs on HEIL, Schwarze, Vac-Con, Wachs, PB Loader, Stanley, Ravo, and medium to small powered equipment.
- Utilizes vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
- Must have the ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Estimates time and material costs of vehicle repairs and requisitions new parts.
- Performs all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Conducts safety checks on vehicles.
- Completes required paperwork utilizing Karmak Fusion - a fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
- Good communication skills relative to supervisor & other related departments.
- Assists senior Mechanics in the completion of project work.
- Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards, and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Welding and fabricating experience is preferred.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, plus the physical ability to work in awkward positions such as kneeling, lying down, and overhead.
- Must have the ability to climb and work from a ladder.
- Ability to operate various shop tools (saws, drills, fork lifts, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have a valid driver's license & transportation
Education & Requirements:
- Required: a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent plus vocational training or job-related course work.
- Preferred: Previous experience in Refuse Industry/Environment
- Preferred: Previous experience with HEIL, Schwarze, Vac-Con, Wachs, PB Loader, Stanley, Ravo, and medium to small powered equipment.
- Preferred: Heavy equipment or other relevant mechanical knowledge
- Preferred: Welding and fabricating experience.
- Must have own tools of the trade.
Skills:
- Automotive or other mechanical knowledge is a plus.
- Small to medium-duty engine & equipment repair_ is a plus._
