About the Position
This Ultrasound Technician operates sonographic equipment to perform diagnostic examinations and communicates results to interpreting physician. This position manages the daily operations of the sonographic area, equipment maintenance, reporting of equipment failures, and quality assessments (QA).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform clinical assessment and requested sonographic examinations as ordered by physician including but not limited to renal and dialysis access.
- Perform preliminary reports and communicate findings to the appropriate physician according to established procedures
- Monitor and ensure the safety, mental, and physical comfort of patient during diagnostic examinations
- Perform related clerical duties as required
- Maintain ultrasound equipment, appropriate work area, and adequate supplies proactively
- Provide in-service education on requirements of sonographic procedures as requested by other members of the healthcare team
- Participate in community education activities regarding access center
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to:
- Work overtime with little or no notice as needed
- Work in other clinics as needed
- Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
- Know, understand, and follow employee guidelines, employment policies, and department or company procedures
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Degree or certification from Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products
- Experience using electronic medical records systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates Degree in health sciences or related field of study
- Two years’ experience in diagnostic medical sonography or vascular technology
- Credentialing as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
- Credentialing as a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Experience using EPIC electronic medical records system

Pay Range
$30.00/hour and up, depending on experience.

Beginning in 1973, Balboa has grown from two physicians to a comprehensive nephrology team of 52 board certified physicians and 8 advanced practitioners. On January 1, 2018, Balboa Nephrology Medical Group (BNMG) launched Balboa United, a full-service medical practice management services organization. From one small office, BNMG now has 24 clinical offices throughout San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside counties. In addition to office and hospital-based patient care, Balboa physicians manage the dialysis treatments of approximately 4,500 patients at 88 dialysis centers and conduct Nephrology based clinical research at 6 centers throughout Imperial and San Diego counties (California Institute of Renal Research).
