Position Summary:
The Senior Transportation Manager is responsible for the oversight of daily operations, compliance, assessment, training and development of commercial drivers and routing for Baldor Boston. This role maintains and administers Company Contracts with clients & vendors and proactive Safety program to ensure compliance with State, Federal and DOT mandates and reduce accidents and injuries within the operation of our commercial fleet. The Transportation senior manager heightens safety awareness within the department, maintains employee morale, and executes continuous improvement efforts.
Approving payroll, evaluating the skills of the team, executing a safety agenda, right sizing the fleet, in-taking new talent and maintaining the DQ files are also within the scope of responsibility of the Transportation Senior Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the successful delivery of Baldor’s goods and services to clients
- Responsible to maintain a fully functioning fleet
- Oversee DOT Compliance and Reporting as it relates to the Fleet and Drivers
- Manages full umbrella of transportation team including routing and dispatch.
- Ability to manage team members at cross dock locations
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships as it pertains to transportation
- Have a working knowledge of Ortec Routing Software.
- Implement vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance programs to ensure that all equipment across the department is being maintained and in full compliance
- Use expertise and good judgment to plan and implement strategy
- Maintain and enforce all Baldor policies and procedures
- Oversee the employee relations and personnel administration of 100 Commercial Drivers
- Coordinate driver road tests and random dug tests of existing drivers
- Provide continuing education, training and evaluation of drivers and staff
- Process accident reports and conducts root cause analysis reporting as needed
- Report Safety metrics and tracks accident trends
- Perform routine safety audits of drivers through ride-a-longs and vehicle inspections
- Lead Team meetings
- Review, discipline and terminate employees as needed
- Maintain employee files in Kronos.
- Ensure all employees are up to date with Safety trainings through SafetyPlus
- Assist in any other duties or projects assigned by the Regional Director of Operations.

Knowledge:
- Business and Industry - Knowledge of industry specific principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of correlations between customer service and safety standards.
- Routing - Knowledge of equipment, geography, quality control, costs, and other factors to maximize effective routing for the distribution of goods.
- Data Analytics and Presentation- Ability and desire to independently create data analytics reports, interpret data, create presentations and conduct presentations/training to variety of stakeholders including drivers and management.
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, data analytics and presentations, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years in transportation management, logistics and distribution
- Bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain
- Have a strong understanding and comprehension of all industry specific business functions.
- Have an understanding and familiarity with Ortec Routing Software
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and work independently as well as contribute to the overall success of the team.
- Strong attention to detail and follow through of tasks.
- English and Spanish proficient required.
- Project management including but limited to usage knowledge of project management software’s such as Microsoft office suite.
- GPS Tracking and Transportation system experience
- Must be Fluent with DOT Regulations, interstate laws, driver hour requirements, IFTA and HUD tax regulations.
Work Activities:
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs. and stand and maintain active for long periods of time without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work extended hours, including weekends and evenings as needed
- Ability to work holidays as needed.
- Must be able to climb, jump, walk up and down stairs
- Must be able to work in a cool environment as needed
