Position Description
Responsible for general cleaning and housekeeping duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, and orderly appearance and operation of county facilities.
Successful applicants must pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug test and physical.
Essential Job Functions
- Clean and disinfect restrooms.
- Clean and disinfect kitchen/breakroom areas.
- Restock paper items and cleaning supplies.
- Sweep and mop floors.
- Collect and dispose trash from offices and assigned areas. Empty and clean trash receptacles and replace liners in trash receptacles.
- Empty outside ashtrays (if applicable).
- Vacuum carpets and perform spot cleaning as necessary.
- Sweep outside building entrances and pick up outside litter.
- Mop stairwells and clean railings.
- Dust furniture, counters, cabinets, window ledges, and blinds.
- Clean and wipe down water fountains, walls, doors, counters, mirrors, glass.
- Rearrange furniture as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Custodial Supervisor.
Education and Experience
- Willing to work overtime or non-standard hours as necessary.
- Direct general public and visitors to various locations as required in a courteous and professional manner.
- Report supply needs to team leader/supervisor and assist with stocking and storing of supplies.
- Assists with setting up rooms for meetings or events as necessary.
- Performs mailroom duties as assigned.
- Opens and secures county facilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Knowledge of generally accepted cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
- Verbal skills to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Skills to complete basic forms.
- Skills to do basic daily maintenance on vacuum cleaners (clean hoses and related equipment to insure proper operation).
- Strip, wax, and buff floors periodically as required.
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, reach, and stand for long periods of time.
