What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Technician I - Baldwin County Commission position at Baldwin County Alabama?
Position Description
The employee will assist with various engineering duties including but not limited to Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), data collection and recording, surveying, record keeping, preparing and distributing construction plans and contract documents, etc., and contributing to the operation of the Highway Department.
Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and will be subject to a pre-employment physical.
Essential Job Functions
- Utilize Microstation, InRoads, GIS, and other software in the development of road and bridge construction plans and site plans.
- Assist Design Section in preparing engineering/GIS products for use in presentations to the Baldwin County Commission as well as the general public.
- Assist the Design Section in the collection of field data such as traffic counts and survey.
- Professional contact with outside engineering consulting firms and the general public.
- Assist in filing and organizing information for multiple projects.
- Assist in staking right-of-way, roadway layout and other surveying.
- Write legal descriptions for ROW and easement dedications.
- Request and participate in the collection of survey and mapping data.
- Conduct interviews with tourist and the public to secure survey information.
Education and Experience
- High school education or equivalent.
- Willing to work overtime and non-standard hours to meet deadlines as required.
- Experience with Microstation, InRoads and Microsoft Office applications is desired.
- Have a valid Alabama driver's license.

- Verbal skills to communicate effectively with office staff and general public.
- Math skills to perform engineering calculations.
- Writing skills to prepare reports, complete forms, compose letters accurately and neatly.
- Reading skills to read and understand written instructions, manuals and correspondence.
- Listening skills to understand verbal communications with co-workers and public.
- Ability to operate office machines such as calculator, computer terminal and copy machine.
- Must be highly motivated and organized.
