Position Title: Family Liaison
Pay Grade: 13 Period of Employment: 12 months

Supervised by and/or Reports to: Principal and/or Assistant Principal
General Responsibilities: Serves as a liaison among families, community, and school staff; facilitates communications and provides Manassas City Public Schools’ information and resources to families.
Essential Duties:

- Provides the connection between parents, community, and school staff to support student achievement and facilitate communications.
- Provides information about MCPS and the school.
- Directs families to appropriate MCPS and community resources for information and resolution of concerns. Connects families with human services.
- Identifies best practices and assists in the development strategies to facilitate school/community collaboration.
- Develops and coordinates programs to engage families and the community in students’ education and school programs.
- Plans, schedules, organizes, and participates in delivering a variety of school/community outreach programs, including one-on-one consultations, small meetings, presentations, conferences, and workshops for families and staff members.
- Schedules and manages some parent activities and programs; participates in community and civic activities to maintain visibility and credibility in the community.
- Researches and develops strategies that promote staff members’ outreach to parents.
- Serves as home/school contact for teachers and administrators to ensure information is communicated in a timely fashion.
- Keeps records and responds to personal, phone, and e-mail inquiries.
- Informally, and in a limited fashion, interprets if and where needed by faculty and parents.
- Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

- Fluency in a second language based on school needs is required.
- Works with school administrative staff to improve communication among Limited English Proficient (LEP) parents and the school.
Requisite Education and Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience in family engagement, community engagement, or outreach programs.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED required. Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in leading and facilitating adult learning.
- Literacy skills in native/heritage language and proficiency in all English skills.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
