What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Superintendent position at Balfour Beatty US?
The Role
Joining Balfour Beatty Construction in Orlando, FL as General Superintendent you will be tasked with working on and leading large scale commercial construction projects with values between $200 and $400 million. You will have primary responsibility for all field operations associated with the project, including ultimate responsibility for implementation of Safety/Zero Harm program, supervision of all field construction work and shared responsibility for ensuring that the project is built on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.
Essential Functions
- Communicates with subcontractors and employees (along with the project manager) a consistent level of expectations and direction regarding schedules, construction methods, company policies and procedures, permits, sustainability program, quality control and other performance standards. Ensures all employees have relevant safety/loss prevention training for their position.
- Actively participates in development and management of project’s general conditions, construction schedule, project planning/phasing, and buyout strategy during preconstruction.
- Participates in making scopes for subcontracts and pre-bid/post-bid meetings.
- Thoroughly understands project specifications, the contract, and the contract’s general conditions, and confirms that all materials and subcontract work comply with contract documents and quality specifications. Implements programs for EEO, risk management, training, sustainability and quality control.
- Reviews and approves all bills for materials and subcontractor requisitions. Confirms that extra charges from subcontractors/suppliers are reasonable and work is correctly executed.
- Facilitates weekly project progress and safety meetings with all subcontractor representatives and coordinates the upcoming week’s work.
- Leads and attends all progress meetings with the client, owner/architect representatives as well as leading site walks and reviews.
- Ensures that the project closeout process is finalized to settle all financial obligations, demobilize all resources, and transition the project to the client.
What you need
- Minimum 10 years of commercial construction field experience is essential as well as at least 7 years direct supervisory experience.
- Proven experience leading and managing large scale $150 million commercial construction projects with Hotel, Casino or Resort experience highly preferred.
- Demonstrated high level of attention to detail and quality assurance.
- Experience working and liaising directly with clients throughout the construction process.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
