General Manager
Balise Motor Sales is a third-generation family-owned company headquartered in West Springfield, Massachusetts. We’re one of the largest auto dealers in New England, and among the top 75 dealer groups in the country. Since 1919, Balise has grown to more than 1,500 associates employed at over 50 locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
The general manager ensures the profitability of the dealership by overseeing the various departments which include variable operations (sales &financing), fixed operations (service & parts), and the business
Job responsibilities:
- Performance
- Oversee the daily, monthly and annual goals & objectives and performance of the dealership.
- Be accountable for daily performance metrics in sales, appointments, and call follow-ups.
- Meets with department managers individually to gov over performance goals & objectives, measuring them to dealership performance.
- Develop and implement strategies for success; communicate and run sales and fixed operation meetings.
- Ensures that monthly financial statements are complete and accurate and submitted on time.
- Support other operational units within the store to achieve maximum return on opportunity for the dealership.
- Develop store business plan; forecast results and present business performance metrics on a regular basis.
- Work in sync with our current team of managers in all departments.
- Engage customers early in the sale to maximize each opportunity, close deals whenever necessary.
- Communicates management policies and procedures and ensures all employees follow Balise’s policies.
- Exhibit a professional management style that sets an example for enthusiasm, productivity and accountability.
- Resolve any customer complaints, working with department managers to ensure overall customer satisfaction.
- Training
- Hire, train and motivate all dealership department managers and associates.
- Contribute to training and development of the associates within the dealership
- Oversee all dealership training, ensuring department managers are sending associates to professional/technical training to provide growth and career advancement.
- Ensure Compliance training is complete for all required positions in the dealership
- Continuity
- Able to lead the daily operation of a dealership consisting of variable and fixed operations; provide direction and support to management, sales consultants, finance and insurance professionals and fixed operations associates.
- Provide enthusiastic leadership to build morale and strong culture within the dealership.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University; and or equivalent related experience.
- General Manager or General Sales Manager experience 3 years.
- A strong finance background is preferred
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business reports, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Environmental & Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may incidentally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds
- A current valid driver’s license and insurability rating is required
- This position may require up to 5-10% travel

- Must be a strong closer and possess the ability to ask for the sale and follow through
- Demonstrated success with growing sales volume and total dealership net profit
- Valid driver's license
- ADP experience is a plus
