Ballard Community School District, a district with approximately 1700 students located minutes from Ames and the Des Moines metro, is looking for substitute school nurses for the 2024-2025 school year.
In the absence of the School Nurse assigned to the building, the Substitute School Nurse will: Provide preventive routine and emergency health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identify problems and disabilities and provide such services as health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Support the education process by working to assure the health of the students.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Promotes and protects the optimal health status of school-age children.
- Dispense student medication.
- Assist in a program for care of disabled children.
- Communicable diseases containment, prevention and awareness.
- Principles and practices and current trends of professional nursing.
- Principles and practices of the special field of school nursing.
- Current practices for common childhood conditions and chronic conditions especially asthma, allergies, diabetes & seizure disorders
- Typical growth and development of school-aged children aged 3 to 21
- Must hold a current and unencumbered Registered Nurse License for State of Iowa.
- Successful completion of background check requirements.
- Computer skills
