Job Title: Head Coach
Reports to: Athletic Director
Basic Function: The head coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the team's performance, including training, strategy development, player development, and overall team management. They must lead by example, motivate players, and foster a positive and productive team environment.
Essential Functions:
Team Training: Develop and implement training programs to improve individual skills and team performance.
Game Strategy: Develop game plans and strategies to maximize the team's chances of success during competitions.
Player Development: Identify areas for improvement in individual players and provide guidance and support for their development.
Team Management: Oversee all aspects of team management, including scheduling, travel arrangements, and equipment procurement.
Player Discipline: Enforce team rules and disciplinary measures when necessary, maintaining a positive and respectful team culture.
Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with players, assistant coaches, and management to ensure everyone is aligned with team goals and objectives.
Community Engagement: Represent the team in the community, participating in events and promoting the sport to engage fans and supporters.
Performance Analysis: Analyze team performance and individual player performance to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all school, conference, and state rules, regulations, and standards of conduct.
Leadership: Provide strong leadership both on and off the field, serving as a role model for players and assistant coaches.
Maintain high integrity and confidentiality in the school operation.
Be knowledgeable of and abide by all school board policies, procedures, and other applicable laws.
Cooperate with and work in a courteous manner with co-workers and other personnel.
Dress appropriately for the position and work required.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students, and job and communicate the same to the community.
Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.
Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the job.
Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors courteously
Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
Qualifications:
Previous coaching experience.
Strong knowledge of the sport and its rules, as well as coaching techniques and strategies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.
Bachelor's degree in sports science, physical education, or a related field (preferred).
Working Conditions:
The position may require evening and weekend work, as well as travel for away games and competitions.
Work environment varies depending on the sport, but may include outdoor fields, indoor arenas, or gymnasiums.
Physical requirements may include standing for long periods, running, and demonstrating techniques to players.
Terms of Employment:
As stated in the signed Contract
The term of the position shall run concurrent with the specified sport coached, according to the approved Unified Activity Calendar by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Secondary Principal and the Activities Director.
