Description/Job Summary
Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) is accepting applications for the Volunteer position of Assistant Basketball Coach. The successful candidate is responsible for assisting all aspects of the program including recruiting, scouting, coaching and counseling.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Supervise all activities related to the student athletes.
- Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to student-athletes.
- Comply with all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations.
- Coordinate the program’s recruiting efforts by identifying and evaluating prospects, making initial contact with potential recruits, and selling the school and program to recruits that meet admission guidelines.
- Assist the Head Coach in reaching roster goals and building a competitive team.
- Maintain records of all recruiting contacts and keep Head Coach informed of recruiting efforts.
- Assist with making regular contact with students and assist with needs for enrollment into college such as transcripts and class scheduling.
- Establish the team’s competition and practice schedules which include but are not limited to coordinating, locating, and scheduling of opponents, make travel arrangements for away games.
- Scheduling and assistance for opponents’ practices in gymnasium and possible travel.
- Assist the Sports Information Director with player and program information for publication on athletics websites and other media.
- Coordinate and organize equipment.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree is required.
- At least six (6) months of experience as a coach and/or student athlete at the collegiate level.
- Six (6) months of experience identifying and recruiting prospects.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available to travel for games including overnight and weekend travel may be required.
Physical Demands:
- Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Lifting (more than 50 lbs.), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis.
- Occasional exposure to risk is controlled by safety precautions.
- Ability to demonstrate proper technique and skill to advance collegiate level student athletes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Possess a thorough knowledge of the sport, a sophisticated understanding of coaching and training strategies, and a demonstrated ability to enhance student athlete development.
- Have the ability to assist with practice sessions and monitoring skilled workouts.
- Have the ability to work effectively and efficiently with student athletes from all backgrounds, while fostering teamwork, and ensuring a positive experience for all athletes.
- Planning and conducting practices, supervising games and upholding NJCAA and Maryland (Junior College) JUCO rules while promoting good sportsmanship.
