The Ninth Grade House Coordinator works directly with freshman students and staff to ensure student success. The coordinator leads and supports teachers and students successfully allowing for a successful transition from middle school to high school and from high school to college. The coordinator will assist in measuring student needs to assure those struggling receive the help they need such as additional tutoring, counseling, or additional support services. The coordinator is responsible to leading the City School's process and procedures for On Track to Graduate by the End of Grade 9. The coordinator will work with administration, staff, teachers, students, and parents to implement and support current best practices in teaching and learning as they are related to each program and school wide implementation. Performs additional job-related duties as assigned. This position cannot be assigned classes, class coverage, or duties not related to supporting the success of the Ninth Grade House team and students.

Essential Functions
  • Leads and participates in freshman teams and site team to assure students are meeting academic and support services needed to be successful.
  • Leads and supports data analysis sessions using data aligned to on track definition to track groups of students for early warning signs and trends.
  • Develops and oversees systems of intervention for identified Grade 9 students and assists the principal with identifying areas of need for successful implementation of support and interventions.
  • Leads and supports meetings with all members of the Grade 9 team to discuss
  • Communicates and works with freshman counselors, student support services team members and administration to maintain fidelity in the program.
  • Leads and participates in on-going and job-embedded professional development (e.g., collaborative team meetings, training meetings provided by central office personnel, data huddles with measurement teams)
  • Organizes parent nights, future freshman nights, recruiting, freshman activities, freshman orientation, staff training, and field trips.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (student records, budgets, and other data needed for success of program).
  • Mentors and coaches' campus level teachers/leaders for the purpose of building capacity to teach and improve instruction.
  • Maintains community partnerships (i.e., colleges, feeder schools, and community outreach programs).
  • Participates in the instructional leadership team to instruct and receive feedback for programmatic changes.
  • Collaborates with Grade 9 Coordinators across high school campuses as part of a professional learning community.
  • Participates as needed in program management training and development to gain and/or refine the skills necessary to effectively manage the 9th grade program.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, or related field. Degree (s) must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Minimum of five (4) years of teaching experience, 9th grade experience preferred.
  • Experience in developing and guiding adult learning. Experience with providing opportunities with adult learners to collaborate, model, observe, and provide feedback to support and improve instructional practice.
  • Experience with coaching adults preferred.
  • Knowledge of data cycles, including how to provide visuals of data narratives to team members.
  • Communicates and works effectively with campus administrators, teachers, support staff, students, parents, and district level staff.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of audio, video, digital equipment and related software or internet-based programs.
  • Demonstrates a command of data analysis skills and using Excel and/or Data Dashboards to track groups of students for early warning signs and trends.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures preferred.
