Vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Highways and Equipment Maintenance.

Examples of Duties

Definition of Responsibility
Under general supervision, oversees and coordinates the operation of a heavy equipment preventive maintenance center. Plans, coordinates, leads, and performs skilled diagnostic, repair, and preventive maintenance work on trucks and heavy equipment.


Essential Functions

  • Oversees and coordinates the daily operations of a heavy equipment service center.
  • Oversees and coordinates the maintenance of shop facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains the inventory of supplies, parts, and tools.
  • Receives, prioritizes, and schedules maintenance and repair work requests.
  • Plans, oversees, and coordinates the work of mechanics and other maintenance center staff.
  • Performs skilled diagnostic, repair, and preventive maintenance work on a variety of heavy equipment and trucks.
  • Coordinates the repair and maintenance of vehicles with the user agencies.
  • Keeps records of service center activities.
  • Prepares periodic reports.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Five years' experience in heavy equipment and truck repair and maintenance.

(Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience.)


Age Requirement

Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.


Licenses and Certificates

Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application.

(License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.)

Possession of a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is required at the time of application.

All licenses and certificates must be maintained throughout employment.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
