    Position Description

    JOB TITLE: Resource Teacher, Mathematics - Elementary

    REPORTS TO: Coordinator, Mathematics

    DEFINITION: Provides support in the design, development, and modeling of effective implementation of the elementary mathematics curriculum/programs that align with the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and builds upon the foundation of the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) Teaching and Learning framework. Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in the system’s strategic plan

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    Assists in the implementation of the Baltimore County Teaching and Learning framework by supporting quality first instruction through use of culturally responsive and data driven practices in mathematics at the secondary level.

    Engages in the residency model of support for schools by planning with zone and school based administrative teams, working collaboratively with teacher teams and staff development teachers in professional learning communities, co-teach and model customized lessons based on formative assessment data.

    Ensures implementation fidelity of the elementary mathematics curriculum/programs and assessments. Models’ lessons demonstrating research-based instructional strategies and best practices aligned to College and Career Ready Standards and delivered in a blended student centered environment. Ensures the infusion of teaching and learning strategies that promote rigor, relevance, responsiveness, and access for all students

    Provides support to schools and offices on the selection and recommendation of programs and initiatives that support effective mathematics instruction and increasing student achievement based on each school’s collected data and School Progress Plan.

    Provides support for teacher leaders in guiding professional learning communities focused on student-centered mathematics instruction and increasing student achievement.

    Provides specific, targeted classroom support to schools based on School Progress Plans and direction from the Department of Teaching and Learning and schools. Assists identified priority schools in mathematics.

    Supports the development, implementation and monitoring of School Progress Plans and assists schools and offices with analyzing and responding to mathematics performance data which may include helping individuals with instructional decisions that personalize and customize learning.

    Communicates regularly with school and Office of Mathematics leadership on the progress of a school’s mathematics program.

    Provides dedicated mathematics professional development and support in mathematics teaching methodologies to teachers as needed or requested.

    Provides professional development to BCPS stakeholders on a broad range of topics related to Mathematics, the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards, and related assessments such as MCAP, including the integration of digital resources with all curriculum content.

    Performs other duties as assigned.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education, Training and Experience:
    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the assignment. Three years of successful teaching experience in elementary mathematics.
    Master’s degree preferred. Experience in curriculum development and revision; planning and implementing professional development; school progress planning and implementation; co-teaching and modeling of instruction with teachers; experience with data analysis and data-driven decision making preferred.

    Licenses and Certificates:

    Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate is required.
    Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate is preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Strong background in elementary mathematics content; knowledge of effective instructional practices; knowledge of transformational teaching and student-centered environment including small group instruction. Knowledge of Schoology, Performance Matters, and available digital resources for students and teachers. Demonstration of strong communication and human relations skills; demonstration of effective organization and communication skills; demonstration of strong computer/technology skills in teaching. Demonstration of strong teamwork.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
    The work of this class is performed in an office and school environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

Factors such as passage of time since the offense, the nature of the violation, and the extent of rehabilitation will be taken into consideration.

    Pre-Employment Requirements:
    • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $106. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
    • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
    • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
    • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
    • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
    • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
    • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
