JOB TITLE: Teacher, Academic Engagement - Scotts Branch Elementary
SCHEDULE: Full-time
REPORTS TO: Compliance Specialist, Title I
DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Office of Title I and school principal, collaborates with school administrators and instructional staff to identify academic needs of students. Develops and delivers appropriate instructional activities. Identifies curriculum based strategies and resources to empower families to actively participate in the schools’ academic programs. Develops and fosters trusting relationships between schools and families to increase student achievement and improve school climate.
Examples Of Essential Duties
Develops and delivers direct instruction in secondary and elementary ELA and/or mathematics for small groups of students, based on the needs of identified students, in order to address deficits and reinforce skills/strategies.
Identifies and develops curriculum based strategies and resources that can be utilized at home to support learning in the classroom; facilitates the delivery of these strategies and resources to families through school/community family/parent workshops.
Works collaboratively with school administrators and staff to identify the academic needs of students to provide families with meaningful engagement activities and events.
Develops a comprehensive understanding of the School Progress Plan (SPP) for each school to ensure the alignment of initiatives and resources to the SPP.
Provides professional development to school personnel (teachers, specialized instructional support personnel, principals and other school leaders) regarding working with parents as equal partners in their children’s educational process.
Assists parents/families in understanding the State academic standards, State and local academic assessments, and how to monitor their child’s progress, and how to work with educators to improve the academic achievement of their children.
Coordinates and integrates parental involvement programs and activities with other Federal, State, and local programs.
Facilitates family workshops, during the day and in the evening, to assist parents with improving their child’s academic achievement, using materials and training aligned with small group instructional objectives, based on the needs to the students.
Meets with families for the purpose of communicating students’ academic progress, identifying areas of need, and providing resources to support these needs.
Partners with families and school staff to develop a supportive and welcoming school culture and fosters trusting relationships based on community demographics. Cultivates trusting relationships between families and school staff that will result in promoting student achievement.
Ensures information related to school and parent/family programs, meetings, and other activities are shared with parents/families in a format and to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand.
Provides other reasonable support for parental involvement activities as parents may request. Attends staff meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the assignment. Three years of successful K-12 teaching experience. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience in a Title I school or communities impacted by poverty preferred.
Licenses And Certificates
Experience with planning and implementing professional development preferred.
Possession of a Maryland Educator Professional Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment (elementary education and/or generic special education grades 1-8).
OR
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator Professional License appropriate to the area of assignment (elementary education and/or generic special education grades 1-8).
Possession of a Maryland Educator Advanced Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional License is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of literacy practices. Knowledge of current research-based instructional practices.
Knowledge of curriculum; knowledge of effective instructional techniques; knowledge of effective resources that are used to build family capacity to support the academic needs of their students.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of data to for effective planning.
Demonstration of strong human relations skills.
Demonstration of effective organizational and communication skills.
Demonstration of computer/educational technology skills. Knowledge of the internet, spreadsheet, word processing, e-mail, and related applications.
Ability to properly maintain confidential information.
Skill in developing and implementing professional development opportunities for parents.
Skill and ability to effectively communicate with students, families, administrators, and others.
Physical And Environmental Conditions
The work is generally performed in a school environment. Employee will be assigned to multiple schools. Travel to schools, offices, homes, and other venues throughout the county required. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

Will require attendance at after school and evening meetings, activities, and events.

GRADE: TABCO 10-month pay scale
SALARY: $60,000 - $119,000
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
OTHER COMPENSATION: Position may be eligible for relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay, or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement.
RETIREMENT: Eligible for the Maryland State Retirement System.
