Pay Schedule I, Grade 26, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week.

Gathers, verifies, and analyzes information regarding applicants to assist in identifying suitable employees.
Essential Job Duties
- Performs background investigations of employment candidates in accordance with departmental policies and goals, applicable laws, and procedural requirements.
- Reads and interprets a rap sheet.
- Navigates METERS and CJIS Systems to perform record checks.
- Gathers, verifies, and analyzes personal, financial, and educational documentation.
- Develops and pursues lines of inquiry.
- Interviews, in person and by telephone, applicants' former employers, current references, associates, and neighbors.
- Contacts other law enforcement agencies, governments, and professional organizations to obtain and verify information.
- Analyzes investigation results and draws logical and objective conclusions.
- Takes fingerprints and submits fingerprint cards for records checks.
- Maintains records of information obtained through interviews and by other means.
- Prepares detailed written reports of investigations.
- Operates a vehicle to travel to investigation sites.
- Participates in various pre-employment events.
- Performs pre-employment interviews of applicants.
- Assists in administering physical agility and other applicant tests.
- Assists applicants in completing forms.
- Attends training sessions.
- Participates in seminars and conferences.
- Trains and advises other background investigators and others.
- Performs other related duties as required

Four years' experience performing employment investigations, police field investigations, and/or other related investigations.
(Additional education in criminal justice or a related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience.)

All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and test for drug use.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Applicants are required to submit proof of license(s), certification(s) and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
Persons appointed to this classification may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime when scheduled.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification includes travel to various investigation sites.
Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
