Pay Schedule II, Grade H24, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week

Under general supervision, performs journeyman level installation, repair, service, and maintenance to heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment in County correctional facilities and leads or instructs lesser skilled workers and inmates.
Essential Job Duties
- Performs journeyman level installation, maintenance, service, and repair to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigerating equipment, including window and package units, freezers, water coolers, cooling towers, pneumatic systems controls, remote controls, pumps, compressors, condensers, and related parts and assemblies.
- Lays out projects, evaluates and tests equipment and component operation, and determines method of repair.
- Replaces and disposes of refrigerant chemicals.
- Leads or instructs lesser skilled workers and inmates and monitors activities of contractors.
- Inspects work both in progress and upon completion to assure quality and conformance to standards.
- Maintains cost and operational records as required and prepares lists of parts and supplies to be requisitioned for assigned jobs.
- Drives an automobile or light truck to transport workers and equipment to and from job sites.
Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications
Four years' experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment, two years of which included commercial and industrial units up to 450 tons capacity.
(Related education may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience.)
Character Requirement
Persons appointed to this classification must be of good moral character and emotionally stable as determined by a comprehensive background investigation and a drug test.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of Type I and Type II E.P.A.-approved refrigerant certification for technicians is required at the time of appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
Persons appointed to this classification must attend correctional training courses offered by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission and other training set forth by departmental policy. Employees are subject to call to duty and overtime in emergencies.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying very heavy objects, and the operation of motor vehicles, and hand and power tools. Some work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as adverse weather and electricity. Work is performed in a fully operational correctional facility with all inherent hazards.
Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
