Essential Duties

Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.)Three years' experience in grounds maintenance, lawn care, farming, green house, or nursery work. (Education in horticulture, agriculture or forestry may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)
Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class A Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application.
(License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.)
Possession of a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is required at the time of application. All licenses and certificates must be maintained throughout employment.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

Essential Duties
- Makes minor repairs and adjustments to the equipment and water systems used in maintaining school recreation centers, park grounds and athletic fields.
- Performs various skills in basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, welding, and other maintenance work on grounds and facilities.
- Performs all operations required for the upkeep and repair of turf, trees, and shrubbery.
- Operates tractors and attachments, mowers, saws, and similar equipment.
- Aerates, seeds, and fertilizes athletic fields.
- Participates in the countywide snow removal operation.
- Ensures the safe condition of all facilities at school recreation centers, playgrounds, parks, and athletic fields.
- Drives commercial weight vehicles to transport personnel, equipment, or tools to work sites.
- Leads, instructs, and trains other maintenance workers, volunteers, and seasonal employees in the performance of above duties.
- Keeps records of time and materials, and prepares routine written reports.
- Performs custodial tasks such as cleaning restrooms and emptying trash.
- Inspects the work of contractors performing ball diamond grooming, mowing, landscaping, tree removal, and other work at County sites, for compliance with standards and to verify completion of work.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment. Ability to understand rules and regulations concerning recreation field and parks maintenance.

- Knowledge of County and departmental standards, policies, and procedures governing performance of duties.
