What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pumping Station Mechanic I position at Baltimore County?
Pay Schedule II, Grade H18, Regular Schedule: 40 hours per week
Vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Utilities, Pumping Division.

Under close supervision, participates in the repair, maintenance, inspection, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components used in sewerage pumping stations, treatment plants, and related facilities. Responsible for operating vehicles, multiple pieces of equipment and housekeeping in support of pumping operations.
Participates in the regular, periodic inspection and preventative maintenance of sewerage pumping stations.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance to mechanical and electrical equipment such as pumps, motors, and control systems.
Assists pumping station mechanics and others in major repairs of mechanical and electrical equipment such as pumps, motors, and control systems.
Retrieves tools, supplies, and equipment for mechanics or others.
Participates in the inspection, maintenance and repair of pumps.
Greases pumps.
Replaces packing.
Cleans and pulls debris from pumps. Inspects pump engines.
Changes engine oil and filters.
Checks engine batteries and replaces batteries as required.
Pulls and cleans sump pumps.
Runs station pump tests.
Checks telemetering alarm systems.
Checks and replaces recording charts.
Performs general plant maintenance on pumping stations, their grounds, and other bureau facilities (i.e. Grass cutting, snow removal and general housekeeping).
Prepares work orders using county owned technology and Cityworks software.
Responds to bureau emergencies and alarms of equipment malfunctions at pumping stations.
Participates in safety training exercises.
Operate and care of county owned vehicles and equipment including mowers.

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. and experience in installation and light maintenance of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.One year preferred experience in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment in a sewerage pumping station or sewerage treatment plant.
Related training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Qualified applicants will be assigned a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application. Employees in this classification are subject to call to duty in emergencies, and will be required to work overtime as needed.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment. Work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as raw sewerage, confined space, adverse weather, and live electrical wires.
Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment background investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification, and fingerprinting checks.
