What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician (BMS at St. Agnes) position at BALTIMORE MEDICAL SYSTEM, INC?
The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Routine duties include Unit-Dose dispensing, controlled, substance distribution and drug accountability. Specialized knowledge of joint commission and federal and state drug law is necessary. A working knowledge of pharmaceutical products, product differentiation and their respective packaging is necessary. The Technician demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and follows guidelines as described in the department's policies and procedures. Responsibility exists to ensure that internal customers are satisfied with service. Communicates with external contacts frequently and is responsible to ensure ongoing service.
HOURS: Tues., Wed. Thurs. and Fir.: 8:30m-5:00pm; Mon.: late hours till 7:00pm
Essential Duties:
- Update patient information,
- Accurately prioritizing in take prescriptions and placing them in the correct "Will call" or Wait Bins.
- Transfer Will Call bags to technicians in charge of reversing claims in the QS1 system as needed.
- Check Refrigerator Temperatures and Complete logs.
- Generates and orders over the counter medication.
- Correctly identify patients using 2 identifiers at check out.
- Prepares and runs the Point of Scale Cash register reports, completes spreadsheets and reconciles the cash register daily as needed.
- Sends refill requests.
- Assists with Prior Authorization Process and follows-up with Clinical team'
- Cleans and maintains all areas, not under housekeeping jurisdiction, where drugs are stored to ensure a sanitary, safe and professional working environment.
- Provides support services to pharmacist by answering phones, receiving faxes, prescription intake.
- Completes Annual Competency exam for Pharmacy Processing system.
