Shelter Supervisor – Overnight Shift - In-Person
Part Time Saturday & Sunday - 11:30pm - 7:30am
Function: The Shift leader oversees the shelter and tends to the well-being and safety of the residents. This vital role ensures a safe, supportive, and restful environment for women and children experiencing homelessness during overnight hours.
Responsibilities: (Include but are not limited to the following)
Monitor the shelter facility throughout the night on an hourly basis to ensure safety and security.
Perform regular wellness and security checks, including hourly bathroom checks and logging observations.
Cook and set out breakfast for residents using pre-prepped items provided by the kitchen chef, following all health and food safety guidelines.
Restock bathrooms and other supply areas to ensure availability of hygiene and essential items.
Support mothers in getting their children up, dressed, and ready for school, offering encouragement and assistance as needed.
Respond to emergencies and conflicts in a calm and professional manner and notifies police and relevant staff in emergency situations
Maintain accurate records, including shift logs, incident reports, and bed check documentation.
Provide basic support to residents as needed, including distributing hygiene items, snacks, or bedding.
Inform the Director of Operations of any physical problems with the building.
Enforce shelter rules consistently, respectfully and completes necessary paperwork when residents violate rules
Collaborate with daytime staff to ensure continuity of care and effective communication.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience or training in human services preferred.
Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, is highly desirable. Understanding women’s issues, addictions, and homelessness is helpful.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to remain awake and alert throughout the entire overnight shift.
Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently. This is an essential position – employees must report to work to cover their shifts.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to shelter policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- No criminal record related to sex crimes, domestic violence, or child abuse
- Ability to understand, respect, and appreciate people of diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds as individuals and in groups.
- Ability and willingness to work within authorized policy, structure, and job description; ability to be supervised and to work in a team relationship.
