Sports Ministry Director
The mission is to provide youth from economically disadvantaged communities access to holistic sports programs that transform their bodies, souls, and spirits and help them succeed. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person with a sense of calling to Christian Youth Development/Sports Ministry and a willingness to fundraise.
The primary role is to operate programs and assist in reviewing and developing additional ministries to achieve the mission and goals. This role offers a creative person who enjoys a variety of tasks, from human resourcing to program development to community relations, coaching, mentoring, marketing, and fundraising. The youth are primarily in grades K-5. We have before-school, after-school, and summer camp programs, instructional leagues, and travel teams.
Responsibilities
- Help interview potential staff members
- Evaluate staff members
- Process and monitor volunteers
- Process registrations
- Contact parents and provide orientations/tours
- Liaison between BSA staff and parents
- Liaison between BSA and local schools
- Help monitor payments and contact parents as needed
- Assist with driving as needed
- Prepare learning spaces
- Teach sessions on faith formation and personal development (character, mindset, teamwork)
- Monitor equipment and supplies
- Lead team practice sessions and guide assistant coaches.
- Monitor, guide, develop, and evaluate staff.
- Help set up schedules.
- Ensure policy and procedures are followed. (including the BSA behavior system)
- Ensure set up and take down are done.
- Prepare fields as needed and help train coaches for instructional leagues.
- Help coach travel teams if time allows.
- Keep all areas clean and organized.
- Monitor overall behavior and determine suspensions and youth that are not a good fit.
- Lead sports games as needed.
- Check vans to ensure they are safe and in good working conditions.
- Assist with evaluating and making improvements to the program.
- Give input and assist with creating new programs.
- Help recruit staff and volunteers
- Fundraise for a percentage of salary and benefits.
Other Responsibilities
- Provide parents with feedback on student progress.
- Oversee pick-up at partner schools. Fill in as driver as needed.
- Marketing with social media posts and website updates
- Tutoring plans for volunteers to follow
Skills, Abilities, and Personal Attributes:
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills and a professional attitude. Able to form healthy and pure relationships and influence and inspire others. Able to lead a team and collaborate with others. Good instructional and coaching skills. Good organizational and time management skills and Basic literacy in Microsoft applications. Has a sense of calling and a ministry mindset. Take the initiative and can vision-cast and develop ministries. Other desirable traits are humility, being genuine, gracious, generous, resilient, taking the initiative, and being able to relate to and value others of various cultures and socioeconomic levels. Able to support BSA beliefs statements as a Christian Organization.
Experience:
At least three years of experience instructing/coaching youth, playing experience in a sport, working in an educational setting with diverse learners, or leading a program is required.
Education:
Post-secondary education or training in (or related to) youth instruction, program development, and ministry.
Job Specifics:
· Full-time, 40 hours a week. Some weeknights, occasional Saturdays, and hours can be worked from home—school year and summer with a few down weeks after and before the school year and on holidays.
· BSA is a faith-based Christian Organization whose staff aligns with our values and belief statements.
· You will receive $20,000 from BSA and be responsible for raising the remainder of your salary and benefits. The salary range is $55,000-$85,000 (based on experience, training, and season of life) with health and retirement benefits. All funds raised will go to your salary and benefits. BSA provides for all the administrative costs, website, giving platform, and training, along with an experienced on-site executive director to support and develop you.
