Balyasny is in a period of rapid technology transition. This exciting role within our Global Support group will provide you with the opportunity to support our Commodities front office applications, data and their integration with middle and back-office systems. The role will have a high level of interaction with the investment staff including Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Analysts, to proactively discover and understand issues and potential workflow/system improvements. The candidate should have a broad knowledge of financial markets and trade lifecycles, and ideally understand research, data, and analysis. The candidate should have technical skills with experience in database and application development. In the role of Engineer, Commodities Application Support the employee will be responsible for the following:
- Enhance, support and maintain the firm’s Commodities front, middle and back-office systems
- Work as a part of the global Application Support team based in Chicago, New York, London, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Singapore
- Proactively engage with PMs, Traders, and Analysts to resolve issues and identify improvement opportunities
- Document common support issues, trade flows and procedures on Confluence
- Roll out, setup, and educate end-users on new product implementations
- Support other geographic locations e.g., monitor jobs running overnight in Asia, Europe and US.
- Work with external vendors technical support teams to resolve issues and deliver strategic enhancements
- Provide escalation support for other regions, including evenings and weekends, on a rotational basis

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Over 5 years of experience working with investment banks, asset managers, commodity houses or software provider with a focus on supporting CTRM/ETRM system, specifically Endur v16 or newer.
- Thorough understanding of Commodities derivative instruments including Future, Forwards, Swaps, FX and Options, including Physical.
- Must be able to discuss details of these products with Portfolio Managers, Analysts, Compliance, Operations and Risk Managers.
- Experience supporting Production environments within an ITIL framework and Development environments using agile methodologies
- Strong troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities, including being able to interpret, understand and troubleshoot internally developed systems
- Knowledge of Messaging platforms – Ex. Solace/Kafka
- SQL experience across various database implementations, including MSSQL or Oracle.
- Hands on technical support of Windows, Linux, Cloud (Kubernetes, AWS)
- Exposure to support python based applications
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exposure to the use and configuration of monitoring tools such as ITRS Geneos and Splunk.
Good to Have:
- Experience supporting Commodities trading platforms such as Trayport Joule, WebICE and TT
- Knowledge of Market Data services – Trayport/B-PIPE
- Experience supporting physical commodities trading is a plus
- Interacting with various teams and ensuring start of the day market opening and end of the day market closure activities are smooth.
