District Position Description
Position Title: Media Specialist
Reports To: Principal
Position Open Until Filled.
Proper Certification from the SCDE required.
Job Goal: Lead students toward the fulfullment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new library materials;

Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials;

Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires;

Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system;

Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers;

Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources;

Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities;

Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation of planned assignments;

Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher;

Participates in curriculum meetings;

Arranges frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the library’s patrons;

Prepares and administers the library budget;

Participates in required trainings (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned;

Performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional local travel and/or overnight travel may be required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
Term of Employment: The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time employment during an entire school year.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
