Secondary Guidance Counselor

Bamberg County School District District Position Description Position Title : Secondary Guidance Counselor Reports To : PrincipalPosition Open Until Filled.Qualifications : A Master's Degree in guidance and / or school counseling. A valid state certificate. A minimum of three years teaching, counseling, or other experience working with children similar in age to the position hired. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.Job Goal : Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.Performance Responsibilities : Adheres to and supports board policy and such guidelines; Serves as the School Test Coordinator for MAP, COMPASS / Accuplacer, PSAT, SAT, ACT (National & State), WorkKeys, ASVAB, EOC, ESL related assessments; Serves as the Test Accommodations Administrator for all testing; Serves as Career Specialist; Conducts Student Intervention Team meetings; Serves as LEA for IEP meetings when necessary; Coordinates and presents Parent University; Develops Master Schedule and determines course offerings; Plans and registers continuing students at the beginning of the school year; Balances class sizes and teacher loads; Processes enrollment and transfers records for new students; Conducts Individual Graduation Plan conferences for all 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students where course selections are made for upcoming year; Coordinates College Application Day; Consults with College Representatives, Military Recruiters, and Training Programs to include Vocational Rehabilitation, Board of Disabilities, WIOA, and other outside agencies / resources; Coordinates all dual enrollment offerings; Communicates and acts as the liaison between Cope Area Career Center, Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College, Denmark Technical College and University of South Carolina Salkehatchie; Develops, produces, and distributes Career Planning Guide; Manages and ensures accuracy of all South Carolina State Department course codes, data entry, and Power School Information; Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality; Provides transcripts to former graduates; Coordinates Graduation Parent Meeting, Class Night, and Graduation practices and ceremonies; Audits senior transcripts annually; Serves as the School Coordinator for USC Salkehatchie Junior Leadership; Conducts career and educational planning activities (i.e. SCOIS); Serves as the school representative for NCAA; Serves as the first responder in crisis situations; Writes recommendations for employment, college admissions, scholarships, etc.; Advertises scholarship opportunities and posts on the website; Coordinates homebound services; Coordinates Red Ribbon Week; Coordinates and presents freshman orientation; Assists teachers with classroom guest speakers, field trips, and mock interviews; Counsels students with social, emotional, or academic needs; Coordinates Clemson's Emerging Scholars Program; Participates in required training (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned; All other duties as assigned by the school principal to include, but not limited to, serving on committees, serving morning and lunch duty, etc. General Requirements : The environmental factors and / or physical requirements include the following : Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and ability to use a keyboard.This position requires working with a diverse group of individuals, including secondary-age students, parents, and staff. Employees in this position may encounter stressful situation where a professional attitude will be required. Multi-tasking is essential as deadlines and frequent interruptions are common.
