PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The At Risk Assistant Principal will be responsible for the overall supervision of the instructional programs and campus level operations for students identified as at-risk. This position will provide support to at risk teachers, Student Support Specialists and administrators with the identification, prevention, intervention and management of at-risk students as identified by the state-defined criteria. The At Risk Assistant Principal will serve to increase the academic achievement and reduce the drop-out rate of at-risk students.
The At Risk Assistant Principal must act with integrity, support organizational goals, demonstrate the ability to inspire, grow and motivate others, utilize feedback, drive for results and commit to championing the needs of the students, employees and overall District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Master’s degree from an accredited College or University
- Valid Texas Assistant Principal or other Administrative certification
- Three years’ experience as a classroom teacher
Preferred:
- Three years’ experience as a campus administrator
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Thorough understanding of school operations
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coordinate campus support operations
MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
- Use campus data to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and instructional strategies providing recommendations for improvement for at risk students.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs that result in increased student engagement and performance.
- Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
School/Organizational Climate
- Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
- Communicate effectively with students and staff.
School / Organizational Improvement
- Participate in building a common vision for school improvement and assist in the planning of activities that will ensure attainment of the school mission.
- Provide support to the principal to develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain records to track progress on local, state, and national performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings to promote school improvement.
- Work with principal and campus advisory committee in setting annual campus performance goals, develop plans for improvement, and monitor campus progress.
Personnel Management
- Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
- Support the supervision of reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
- Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and board policy
Student Management
- Support with the monitoring and verifying of at-risk coding for PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System).
- Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Provide support during student conferences with parents, students and teachers.
Professional Growth and Development.
- Participates in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
School/Community Relations
- Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicits support
- Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Support supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
