Overview

General Statement of Duties: To provide rehabilitation services to persons served within ACCS and Respite Services and to do so in a manner that promotes growth, independence, and dignity for those individuals served.

 

Relief Staff float throughout their assigned geographical area.  Choose from open shifts on BAMSI Schedule Board.  Minimum hours per month is 16 hours, but you can add more hours as your schedule allows.

 

Must have a high school diploma or GED with a valid driver's license in state of residence. Demonstrated interest, knowledge and genuine willingness to work with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illness, including a desire for professional development and acceptance of training in the field of human services.

 

This position services ACCS and Respite.  Available locations are Brockton, Bridgewater, Avon.  

 

BAMSI's Respite Services program delivers short term, clinical, community based treatment services providing opportunities for stabilization to adults with Mental Illness. These services are provided to individuals either on-site while they reside at the program, or in their current living situation. Components of the program include assessment, crisis management, symptom management, and medication education.

 

 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

 

Direct Care and Coordination of Services:

  • Attend to the daily needs of persons served on an individual basis as well as foster increased independence and self-determination
  • Teach socialization skills and Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), which include but are not limited to: household maintenance, laundry, grocery shopping, food preparation, medication management, money management, personal care, exercise, transportation, problem solving skills, time management, and safety/self preservation.
  • Follow the Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Medication Administration Program (MAP) policies, which include, but are not limited to: training requirements, medication administration, medication security, and corresponding documentation as applicable for MAP Certified staff.
  • Supervise and document consumer self-administration of medications as prescribed by a physician in accordance with agency and program procedures.
  • Facilitate opportunities for group and individual community based activities.
  • Provide a supportive environment that includes opportunities for persons served to determine, to the fullest extent possible, personal decisions for daily schedules and routines.
  • Assist in the implementation of treatment plans including behavioral interventions.  
  • Participate in meetings as required by supervisor.
  • Transport individuals served to and from day programs, medical appointments and other activities as required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license in primary state of residence and follow the requirements of BAMSI Safe Driver Policy PE-48-12.
  • Act as individuals’ advocate and role model.
  • Communication, Documentation & Teamwork

  • Follow funder and agency protocol for reporting significant incidents and alleged abuse and/or neglect.
  • Record data by the conclusion of each shift. Documentation requirements include, but are not limited to: daily service notes, staff communication log, financial audits, medication records, and behavior tracking.
  • Facilitate and document fire drills as instructed by the program manager or designee, and the program’s Safety Plan.
  • Ensure person served safety and compliance with program standards for staff coverage, including assistance to the Administrator-On-Call whenever possible.
  • Maintain knowledge of ongoing program issues and developments as well as informing supervisor of program issues and concerns.
  • Communicate in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Work in other residential programs when needed. May work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Treat all individuals, employees, and visitors with respect and dignity.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings.

  • Follow funder regulations and adhere to all BAMSI policies.
  • Understand and utilize universal/standard precautions and instructions on how to stay safe in areas that constitute risk.
  • Complete all other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor.
  • Qualifications

    .

    • High school diploma or equivalency, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Previous experience working with individuals with mental health issues preferred.
    • Ability to record data using a computer, enter time worked into an electronic system and receive and send email required.
    • A valid driver's license in state of residence and satisfactory driving record.
    • Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately in order to keep documentation up to date and understandable.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons served, families, service providers and funding source personnel.
    • Ability to reach, bend, stand, sit and walk; perform fine motor activities.
