Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Utility CAD Technician with experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and a strong command of CAD software. The ideal candidate will support engineering and survey teams by creating detailed utility maps and drawings based on SUE data. This role requires expertise in interpreting utility locates, survey data, and as-built records to produce accurate and reliable plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and update CAD drawings for SUE projects, including utility maps and subsurface infrastructure layouts.
- Interpret and integrate utility locates, survey data, and geophysical reports into CAD designs.
- Work closely with SUE field crews, engineers, and survey teams to develop accurate and detailed utility plans.
- Manage and organize CAD files, ensuring proper documentation and version control.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and GIS software to support utility mapping.
- Identify potential utility conflicts and assist in clash detection analysis.
- Assist in preparing as-built utility records and deliverables for clients.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of CAD drafting experience in utility and SUE-related projects.
- Software Proficiency: High-level expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and GIS applications.
- Education: Associate degree or certification in CAD, drafting, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of SUE processes, utility investigation methods.
- Ability to interpret GPR, vacuum excavation, and electromagnetic locate data.
- Knowledge of underground utility systems (water, sewer, gas, telecom, electric).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large-scale utility datasets.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with SUE consultants, DOT projects, or municipal utility departments.
- Familiarity with state and local utility permitting processes.
- Field experience in utility locating, surveying, or geophysics is a plus
