Job Title: Auto Body Prepper/Buffer
Job Summary: The Auto Body Prepper/Buffer is responsible for preparing the surfaces of vehicles for painting and performing buffing tasks to ensure a smooth, clean, and even finish. This involves using a variety of tools to sand, buff, and polish the vehicle's surface, ensuring that it is ready for the final paint application.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation:
- Sand down body panels to remove imperfections such as rust, dents, and scratches.
- Remove any old paint, primer, and coatings as needed.
- Apply fillers and bodywork to repair any damaged areas, ensuring the surface is smooth and even.
- Mask off areas that should not be painted (windows, trims, etc.).
- Buffing and Polishing:
- Use buffers, polishers, and other specialized equipment to achieve a smooth, shiny, and blemish-free surface.
- Ensure that the surface is free from imperfections such as swirl marks or inconsistencies.
- Perform final polishing to ensure the paint application will adhere properly.
- Inspection and Quality Control:
- Conduct a thorough inspection of the surface to ensure it meets quality standards before painting.
- Correct any imperfections that may affect the finish or appearance of the vehicle.
- Ensure the vehicle is properly cleaned and prepared for the painting team.
- Safety and Cleanliness:
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear proper safety equipment (goggles, gloves, respirators, etc.) to protect from chemicals and dust.
- Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials and waste.
- Collaboration and Communication:

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in auto body repair, prep work, or detailing preferred.
- Familiarity with using buffers, sanders, and other automotive surface preparation tools.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work with precision.
- Strong manual dexterity and physical stamina to handle long periods of standing, bending, and working with tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of automotive bodywork and preparation techniques.
- Ability to perform fine sanding and buffing work to a high standard.
- Good problem-solving skills to handle surface imperfections and repair work.
