Associate, Equity Derivatives Structuring
Business & Role Overview
The equity derivatives structuring team develops and evaluates hedging solutions, investment products and design systematic strategies sold to distribution and institutional clients globally. Working closely with sales, trading and research, the structuring group not only translates trading axes, risk recycling and research ideas into investment products but also tailors solutions to provide yield enhancement, protection and portfolio asset allocation via options and rules-based indices. The process of designing solutions and products gives the opportunity to work on a wide variety of asset classes including equity indices, single stocks, hybrids and multi-asset products.
The group is organized by geographical region and products skills divided into smart flows, structured products and investable indices derivatives. The client base includes 3rd Party Distributors, Private Banks, Asset Managers, Hedge Funds, Pensions and Insurance Companies. This position will be focused on the structured notes initiative, which has been a huge push for the equities division over the last couple years. The business is at a stage where it needs a dedicated pod within structuring to (a) lead the development and expansion of product capabilities, and (b) support the flow and execution of the existing business, working closely on a day to day with sales and trading. The pod consists of ~4 team members, all of which will are well versed in in exotic equity derivatives, capable of coding in python, and have strong interpersonal skills that allow them to lead as well as work with stakeholders across the firm.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support the pricing of the flow of Structured Notes and develop new pricers
- Develop front office tools that will help us push the development of tactical tools for structured products
- Price financial derivatives structured notes for sales and trading.
- Create and analyze bespoke derivatives products to enhance investment solutions.
- Run business analytics (P&L / Risk / Scenarios etc.) for the portfolio of business
- Collaborate with market risk, legal, tax, middle office, and technology departments, as well as work with the Chief Operating Officer to approve new products
- Applying strong technical skills in mathematics, programming, finance to bespoke financial products and solutions
- Talking to international clients and global financial institutions
- Financial markets developments analysis and development of prediction models based on statistical and fundamental mathematics tools to provide sound advice to clients
- Produce bespoke derivative products which are tailor-made to fit the client’s objective. The transaction timeframes are longer than more classic financial products, since they involve an ongoing dialogue with clients to structure trades that work for them not only in terms of the economic payoff, but also in terms of its effect on their balance sheet profile, or knock-on effects to overall portfolio diversification. A structured trade can progress from idea to trade as quickly as a week, or as long as a year for large scale projects which involve a strategic shift in a client’s product offering for example.
- Designing proprietary payoffs including back-testing, engineering, coding, and operational/legal/tax/compliance/risk review and/or approval as needed.
Core Competencies & Qualifications
- Minimum 3y experience working with exotic equity derivatives
- Masters in a Financial Engineering, Mathematical Finance, Computational Finance, or affine quantitative field
- Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills,
- Highly motivated to interact with people from multiple backgrounds and responsibilities.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Strong knowledge of financial derivatives products: structured products, hybrids, light exotic payoffs, vanillas, listed securities
- Strong programming skills in Python, Matlab, C and/or VBA in order to develop statistical and mathematical models for financial analysis and automation tools
- Analyzing global financial markets developments and creating strategies, financial statements and creating detailed financial models, valuation assessment, benchmarking, and comparative analysis
