Position Summary
The Product Line Director translates market needs into plans for new product development in current market segments and identifies new market segments for Banner’s Industrial Lighting products to drive revenue growth.
This position reports to the Vice President – Safety, Lighting and Indication
According to the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), this position is classified as:
- Exempt, based on the Professional Exemption
What You’ll Be Doing
- Delivering timely, actionable, and relevant market assessments to anticipate high potential market segments and respond to customer, technological, and competitive market trends to drive revenue growth.
- Performing research, monitoring, and analyzing the Industrial Lighting business, market, and metrics that impact the product’s success.
- Conduct surveys of Banner distributors and customers and analyze competitive products.
- Formulating business cases for new development projects.
- Formulating and executing go-to-market plans and developing market requirement documents for new product development.
- Researching and maintaining technical competitive intelligence in Industrial Lighting.
- Keeping the organization apprised of emerging marketplace and consumer trends, including technology, markets, products, services, customer experience, and competition to identify opportunities to sustain and grow the enterprise.
- Working with the Channel partners, Distribution, Sales Reps, and customers.
- Collaborating with the Director of Lighting Engineering and other Engineering leadership.
- Managing the technical product management team to ensure the following:
Product & Documentation Management
- Updated product documentation, including datasheets, Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering specifications, and technical references.
- Ensure accurate revision control and compliance with internal product lifecycle management (PLM) processes.
- Support SKU management and rationalization initiatives to optimize product offerings.
Manufacturing & Operations Support
- Interface with manufacturing, supply chain, and production teams to address product issues and improve manufacturability.
- Manage and track Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), deviations, and version control to maintain operational efficiency.
- Work closely with production teams to monitor product output, resolve supply chain constraints, and ensure alignment with market demand.
Product Lifecycle & Market Maintenance
- Own product lifecycle handoffs between R&D, engineering, and production to ensure smooth transitions from development to commercialization.
- Monitor and maintain product availability, working with internal teams to resolve lead time, backlog, and fulfillment challenges.
- Collaborate with commercial and sales teams to support New Product Development (NPD) projects, ensuring alignment with operational capabilities.
Performance & Cost Management
- Support cost-reduction initiatives, identifying and implementing product optimizations to improve margins.
- Track and address margin leakers, working with cross-functional teams to mitigate risks.
- Ensure pricing and cost structures are maintained within the product portfolio.

Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, Market Research, or relevant field
- Expertise in a full range of quantitative market research methods and processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead and implement business and marketing strategies to achieve business goals for profitable growth
- Proven track record of using market insights to drive revenue growth
- Demonstrated analytical abilities in assessing sales data, survey results and market trends, ability to think strategically
- Must be able to work with limited direction, setting, and attaining broad goals
Preferred
- Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)
- 10 years of experience in business development, consumer insights, and strategy within manufacturing
- Familiarity with basic technical concepts, and able to quickly understand technically advanced products
- Familiarity with basic marketing concepts of positioning, promotion and competitive advantage
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications and presentation skills; insights and presentations provoke debate and compel action with a non-academic, accessible style; proficient in developing effective executive briefings & strategic presentations.
- Highly developed negotiating, influencing, relationship development, and strategic planning skills
- Advanced product and project management skills and demonstrated ability to create and monitor marketing metrics
- Enjoys working in a fast paced environment
- Ability to “connect the dots” across disciplines/subject matters and translate to business implications
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for managing Product Managers, Program Managers, and Technical Support staff.
