Job Description
The Estimator/Project Manager prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
Estimating Responsibilities
- Read, interpret and analyze bid documents, blueprints, construction specifications and related materials
- Prepare estimates by identifying and computing costs based on labor, equipment, material and time requirements
- Prepare bid packages, bid documents and their key components including items such as bonding, insurance indemnification, damage clauses and inclusion/exclusion lists.
- Review subcontractor bids for cost effectiveness, quality, schedule durations and execute subcontractor agreements
- Prepare break-down of materials and request pricing from various suppliers.
- Visit site, take pre bid photos and record information regarding access, topography, availability of services, possible hazards, etc.
- Attend pre-bid and jobsite meetings with potential customers
- Confer with engineers, architects, state agencies, owner, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers on project plans
- Ensure that any applicable local union and/or federal/state prevailing wage rate guidelines are considered, monitored, implemented and maintained per project bid requirements
- Oversee all aspects of construction project from planning to implementation
- Create take-offs and project estimates
- Obtain bids and qualify subcontractors for projects
- Allocate resources for assigned projects
- Supervise onsite personnel and subcontractors
- Interface with project inspectors, contractors, architects, engineers, city and county officials, and clients
- Negotiate with contractors to receive reasonable order costs
- Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to original plans and specifications
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and Organizational skills
- Ability to take initiative
- Strong computer skills especially with Microsoft Excel
- Strong math skills
- Collaborative skills/Team player
- Ability to read plans and interpret specifications
- Must be able to absorb constructive criticism and take ownership of performance.
- A team player with leadership abilities
- Position requires working from Brownsburg office
- Minimum 5 years experience in construction industry
- Minimum 2 years experience in construction estimating
