What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Worker position at Baptist Church of the Covenant?
Childcare staff shall provide a safe and secure environment for children. Primary responsibility will be with children from birth to age 5, but occasional duties will involve children through grade 5. Childcare providers are expected to conduct themselves in a caring and kind manner toward the children served by the church, their families, and each other. It is expected that each person will help provide and maintain a Christian environment in which the children may grow physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually. Following the instructions of the parent/caregiver regarding the routine of the child demonstrates that childcare providers value the child and family. This position is supervised by a volunteer Nursery Coordinator and the Associate Pastor for Christian Formation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to the service or program
- Prepare classroom and play spaces, changing area, restroom with supplies needed * Make sure the Welcome stand is ready with CHECK IN/OUT binders, pen, hand sanitizer, name tags, markers
- Greet parents at the door; receive any instructions for the child to be written on the Sign in/out sheet in binder
- Label a child’s personal items with a tag
- Return personal items to child’s designated adult/parent when they return to pick them up. Parent initials the CHECK OUT column at the Welcome stand.
- Wipe down the things used in the classroom and the welcome stand with disinfecting wipes
- Maintain respectful communication with childcare staff, volunteers and parents Requirements - A person in this position must have:
- No record of arrests or convictions for child abuse, or any crime dealing with the welfare of a minor; must be free of any and all accusations and allegations of child abuse; and must submit to a confidential background check.
- Childcare experience, as well as strengths and qualities that are helpful in working with children, volunteers, and parents.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Be physically able to lift children from the floor, changing table, crib, etc.
- Availability to work on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and occasionally other times as needed for special programs, memorial services, or special worship services.
- Attend annual training provided by the church in the areas of policies and procedures, health and safety, and abuse prevention and reporting.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 3 – 8 per week
