Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician - Inventory Specialist works under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to perform supportive duties and tasks, in accordance with Florida state statues/rules and regulations and Baptist Health Care policy and procedures. This position assists the supervising pharmacist in the proper assessment and preparation of patient's medication orders including pharmaceutical care and related activities. This position monitors and assesses pharmacy inventory for accuracy and regulatory compliance in accordance with Florida state statutes/rules. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory counts within the pharmacy management software, initiation and completion of returns of inventory along with monitoring associated credits, managing team responsibilities related to monthly expired medication audits, and the management of 340b product ordering, accumulations, and application of inventory to software. This position is also responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of inventory associated with any pharmacy automation that is utilized within the retail pharmacy space. This position is responsible for the financial accuracy of ordering and returns that impact monthly operational medication expense for various accounts associated with the department.
Responsibilities
- Take customer calls, refill authorizations and when necessary communicate requests to pharmacist or otherwise assist with phone requests.
- Maintains appropriate medication inventory. Checks the order in, reorders inventory when appropriate, checks for outdated product, and facilitates returns and recalls to wholesaler or manufacturer.
- Performs delegable tasks as allowed by departmental policy and state law, which primarily includes the following: counting, weighing, measuring, and pouring of prescriptions medications, labeling of preparations & prescriptions, computerized data entry, and retrieval of prescription & patient data.
- Responsible for accuracy of inventory within the retail pharmacy, including but not limited to, inventory associated with 340b purchasing, GPO purchasing, returns, credits, and any automation utilized or implemented within the pharmacy.
- Performs delegable tasks associated with the compliance of regulations related to any federal or state implementation of inventory monitoring, inclusive of any requirements of compliance with the Drug Supply Chain and Securities Act.
- Partners with Pharmacist in Charge to implement changes in workflow and process management of inventory within the department.
- Responsible for maintenance of controlled substance inventory, inclusive of quarterly controlled substance inventories, along with annual inventories for the pharmacy. Will require shift hours that fall outside of standard open business hours at least 5 times per year.
- Maintains accurate inventory of supplies within the pharmacy associated with printers, mailing supplies, packages, coolers, vials, caps, and ice packs necessary for the ongoing production of essential processes of the department.
- Responsible for following the identification and prevention of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
- Participates in department Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program, which includes attendance and record-keeping functions.
Qualifications
- 3 years pharmacy experience in a retail setting required
- Registered Pharmacy Technician State of Florida License Required
- PTCB (PTCB) National Certification required
