Job Description
The Registered Nurse serves as clinician, teacher, consultant, researcher and change agent in the specialty of wound, ostomy, and continence to affect quality care. The person in this position cooperates with administration to establish major objectives and standards of patient care practice and assists nursing staff in complying with accrediting agency regulations. This position will be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach in the treatment of ostomies, stomas, acute and chronic wounds. This position will coordinate treatment to provide comprehensive wound assessment and plan of care, including goals, implementation of treatment evaluation and outcomes for patient throughout the organization. The position serves as a resource person for physician and clinical team.
Responsibilities
- Provides direction and guidance for Patient Care Practice and Patient Care Activities.
- Identifies findings in the data base which are amenable to nursing therapy, require appropriate referral, or indicate the necessity for further data collection.
- Contribute to establishment of mutually agreed upon patient goals and nursing interventions to aid in achieving the identified goals. Fulfills the role of a registered nurse taking ownership for the care of the patient and taking initiative in treatment program implementation.
- Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/significant other in order to address all identified needs. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
- Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses are reassessed to meet patient and family needs and assure overall quality of care delivered.
- Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care.
- Provides education specific to the patient's assessed needs, abilities, learning preferences and readiness to learn as appropriate.
- Assesses patient's progress through expected hospital course, mobilizing resources and intervening as necessary to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved as anticipated based on a pre-determined plan for each day of hospitalization for the patient's diagnosis.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
- Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
- May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications
Education
- Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state license
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
- Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON)
