What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist position at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville?
Clinical Pharmacy Specialists are responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy. Through various assignments within the department, they provide support of centralized and decentralized medication use systems as well as deliver optimal medication therapy to patients within their specialty. The position’s designated specialty area will be Antimicrobial Stewardship and Critical Care.
All pharmacists are responsible for drug preparation and distribution for medications; evaluating, inputting and verification of medication orders; assisting providers and other health care professionals by serving as a drug information resource; monitoring and managing medication regimens per protocol or per consult; and managing pharmacy inventory.
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist positions will be comprised of two levels based on job functions.
Level 1 Requirements:
· Eighty (80) percent of the employee’s time will be spent working in the designated specialty areas of Critical Care and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
· Participates in the didactic and experiential training of pharmacy students and residents.
Level 2 Requirements:
· Performs presentations for the organization
· Maintain a portfolio that outlines information about yearly requirements. Annually, specialists will be expected to complete MUE, CE or In-Service (CE preferred), and Drug Class Review. Continued service-line expansions, relevant order set reviews, policy and/or procedure development/modification and formulary monographs may be required when needed.
· Responsible for leading a local meeting at the direction of the Director of Pharmacy
Minimum Education and Training
- Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy
- Current Kentucky/Indiana Pharmacist License or eligible as applicable to site
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (if applicable) or within 6 months of start date
- Completion of PGY-1/PGY-2 ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency in area of practice preferred or minimum of 3 years of experience in practice area
- Board Certification within 1 year of hire required
