Full-Time Exempt Salary Range $62,000 - $65,0000 (annually)
Position Summary:
The Director of Activities shall develop, organize and coordinate available facility and community resources to provide the highest quality of ongoing programs of activities. In accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the program will be designed to meet the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
Job Requirements:
The Activities Program shall be directed by a qualified professional Therapeutic Recreation Specialists or an Activities Professional who:
* Is licensed or registered, if applicable, by the state in which practicing; and
* Is eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or as an Activities Professional by a recognized accredited body on or after October 1, 1990; or
* Has two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full time in a patient activities program in a health care setting
* Is a qualified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant; or
* Has completed a training course approved by the state
· Has physical and mental capacity to handle this high energy job.
· Coordinate and conduct activities and supervise others
· Possess good interpersonal skills, including group dynamics and teamwork
· Demonstrates genuine liking and respect for the elderly
· Conveys cheerful, positive attitude, patience and ability to motivate people

Essential/Primary Functions of the Job:
· Access all pertinent resident records for assessment and program purposes
· Coordinate all activities and assist with religious service and programs
· Maintain effective communications and working relations with all staff/departments,
residents, families and the public
· Ability to work with an electronic medical record system to update care plans and complete relevant MDS sections.
· Prepare and keep all necessary records including:
- Care plans: activity assessments, activity interest’s questionnaire, MDS, triggers, raps, individual care plans, and progress notes
- Daily attendance records
- Monthly calendars- based on resident input, assessments and interests
- Develops the departmental budget and monitors expenditures to stay within budget
- Assists in the development, administering and coordinating of policies and procedures - will be done at least quarterly
- Any other records deemed necessary
· Maintain compliance with local, state, federal and facility regulations and policies Concerning the Activities program and residents' rights
· Participate in the Education training program in the facility. This includes presenting sessions as well as attending sessions. Contribute to staff meetings as required by the facility, including, Department Head meetings, Quality Assurance and Customer Service
· Attend and provide input to the individual resident care plans
· Provide adaptive activity program, techniques, equipment and materials as related to each resident’s specific needs
· Ensure that all residents are involved in activity groups, one to one, bedside, and/or independent on a weekly basis
· Maintain a safe environment through preventive maintenance, cleaning, disinfecting and sorting supplies and equipment
· Coordinate facility sponsored community trips/outings
· Schedule staffing hours to ensure appropriate program coverage, including evenings, weekends and holidays
· Maintain an activity community resource file
· Coordinate the preparation of monthly bulletin board and seasonal decorations
· Conduct audits and participate in various committees as assigned or requested
· Promote and engage in a culture of excellent customer service
· Any other duties deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Administrator
Equipment to be used:
Computer, telephone, copy machine, popcorn machine, beds, bed and chair alarms, key pads for alarms, gait belts, infection control equipment, wheelchairs, tables and chairs, televisions, speaker system, bus and bus lift. Must have a valid Driver’s License. May be asked to drive the Activities Vehicle.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
· Must be able to hear alarms and intercom pages
· Must be able to lift fifty pounds
· Requires frequent bending, stooping, stretching, climbing of ladders & stairs
· Writing skills must be above average, and requires ability to distinguish letters and symbols
· Helps with transfer of independent patients and transport wheelchairs
· May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
· Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in the Activity Room and throughout the nursing home with trips out into the community. Contact with many of the staff, residents and family members.
