Summary/Objective

The Assistant Director of Pharmacy is responsible for providing assistance to the Director of Pharmacy in managing the daily operations of the department to ensure stability and ensure that all laws and regulations are being followed. This Clinical position requires skills and experience in pharmacy operations and supervising others. The Assistant Director of Pharmacy must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

  • Manage daily pharmacy operations including staffing, medication distribution, compounding, and automation systems. Ensure operational efficiency across multiple departments (e.g., inpatient, outpatient, sterile compounding). Identify and monitor continuous quality improvement opportunities to reduce waste, optimize turnaround times, and support safe medication practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Respond to external regulatory inspections, and maintain documentation to support continuous survey readiness. Develop and monitor policies and procedures to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and legal compliance.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate pharmacists, technicians, and support staff to promote a high-performance culture. Support recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and professional development, including training programs, competencies, and continuing education. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across pharmacy teams.
  • Collaborate with all healthcare providers to support optimal medication therapy management and patient care. Participate and manage the P&T formulary management, medication safety events and adverse drug event review. Monitor medication use patterns and support interventions to improve safety and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Assist the Administrative Director of Pharmacy in managing pharmacy budgets, procurement, drug cost containment strategies, and revenue cycle optimization. Oversee purchasing, contracting, and pharmacy charge master. Monitor performance against financial targets and identify opportunities for improved operational and fiscal efficiency.
  • Monitor and enhance CS accountability across the system, including ADC optimization, secure waste disposal solutions, and advanced diversion detection software implementation. Represent pharmacy on interdisciplinary CS and diversion oversight committees, and participate in enterprise risk management planning.

Required Education And Experience

Graduate of accredited College of Pharmacy; minimum of 5 – 10 years of hospital management experience or a graduate of PGY1/2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Leadership Program with a completed Master degree.

Required License/Certifications

Licensed by Texas State Board of Pharmacy and IV Sterile Certification
