Summary/Objective
The Director of Coding and Documentation is responsible for general supervision of daily operations of the Coding Department, developing coding policies/procedures to ensure facility compliance, coordinating activities to ensure continuity of services, daily monitoring of claims pending, external and internal coding auditing, documenting/reporting audit outcomes, ongoing education of the coding staff. This non-clinical position requires skills and experience in multitasking and supervisory experience. The Director of Coding and Documentation must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Proficiency in ICD-9 and CPT-4 hospital coding. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and pathophysiology preferred, or significant experience/training. Minimum of two (2) years experience in provision of Coding Services
Required License/Certifications
CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)

Essential Job Duties

- Oversees, supervises, and coordinates the daily operation and function of all hospital coding, achieving expected bill-hold goal (4 day out-patient and 3 day inpatient).
- Participates in coding records as a member of the coding staff as required to meet bill-hold expectations, month-end close, and year-end close.
- Ensures the timely and accurate completion of abstracts, as well as, any other required documentation to State or regulatory agencies as pertaining to the Coding Department
- Conducts orientation and on-going training of coding staff; participates in the hiring, evaluation and budget processes; ensures timely and accurate reporting of statistical reports generated by the coding department.
- Management of coding functions in accordance with the coding conventions and official guidelines approved by CMS, AHIMA, AHA, and NCHS.
- Monitor bill-edit reports daily to ensure all accounts are identified, coded, and claims released in a timely manner (within 4 days following patient discharge).
