The primary purpose of this job is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operations of the nursing services department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern the facility and as directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed in the state of Oklahoma as a registered nurse with a current license with a good standing with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Prefer a minimum of two years’ experience in long-term care nursing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Is employed full-time, 40 hours per week, five days a week, on dayshift, preferably 8:30 AM to 5 PM
· Will participate with the administrator and key personnel in the formulation of written policies and procedures that directly or indirectly influence resident services, including personnel, policies, and resident care.
· Will assure that the health needs of the residence are met by assigning a significant number of personnel for each hour of duty.
· Ensure that all health service notes are informative and descriptive of the supervision and care rendered including the residence response.
· Review the health requirements of each resident admitted to the facility and assist the attending physician in the planning of the residence care, completing the MDS and care plan.
· Will visit each resident frequently to evaluate the residence, immediate physical condition and receive the residence comments relating to his or her needs and problems.
· Will review all resident health records, healthcare, plans, and medication regimen and physician orders.
· Assist with supervision and evaluation of the performance of all healthcare staff.
· Will inform the administrator of the resident status and other related matters through written reports and verbal communication.
· Well, assign duties and responsibilities to all healthcare personnel and accordance with their competence and preparation, and will review staff assignments as needed.
· Will teach, provide in coordinate rehabilitative health service, including activities of daily living to promote and maintain optimal, physical and mental functioning.
· Supervise and serve diets to share that patients unable to feed themselves are promptly fed and special feeding devices and utensils are available as needed, will note special problems related to food and fluids intake. Monitor weekly or monthly weights and will meet with a Dietitian regarding any dietary problems.
· Will review medication records to see that they concur with the physician’s orders and that the order is current, drug and dose are correct and administered as ordered and documented.
· Supervise the proper storage disposition discontinued, medication, and proper documentation of their disposal.
· Supervise the staff and keep medical records, lab work, telephone orders, stop orders, and all pharmacy policies.
· Supervise the training program for nurse aids, and certified medication aids and see the proper documentation is maintained to meet current regulations.
· Will designate staff member to be responsible for maintaining the in-service program, and any other required educational programs and see that they are properly documented.
· Will make sure the health department regulations for employee, physical, and TB skin testing are followed. Also, hepatitis B vaccinations.
· Coordinator, continuous quality improvements program.
· Also assume the responsibility for accomplishing our objective to provide the highest quality of nursing care by performing any other duties related to this level of care.
· The DON will be the coordinator of all continuous improvement functions.
