Temporary Armed Flex Security Officer - College Campus

Barbier Security Group (BSG) is a rapidly growing Bay Area based security services company. Founded in 2007 Barbier Security Group has been tasked with providing custom protective security programs for individuals, government organizations and private companies.

Barbier Security Group(BSG) is currently seeking qualified Armed Security Officers for a prestigious private University in Oakland. *Applicants with Law Enforcement, Military, or a Graduate of a US Based Law Enforcement Training Academy experience will be prioritized. The role of the Flex Armed Security Officer will be high visibility, deterrence, patrols, safety escorts, building checks, community engagement, and dispatch/gate support as needed. The Flex Armed Security Officer must have 7 day availability to work Morning, Swing or Grave shift with 24 hour notice.

The Security team is cross trained to monitor all security, communications and fire/life safety systems, and is the liaison between campus personnel, students, law enforcement and BSG management. This team is staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. The team is directly responsible for the accurate documentation of routine and unusual events occurring on or near the facilities. Armed Security Officers must maintain an expert level of knowledge of the campus rules and always provide professional interactions that promote safety and instill confidence to the faculty, staff, students and visitors to the property. Schedule: This is an Ongoing Temporary Flex Full-time position for Morning, Swing and Grave shift as needed. Must have the ability to work up to 10-hour shifts any day within a 7 day week. Must be available to work weekends!

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Possess a current California Guard Card License.
• A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for applicable sites.
• Reliable transportation is necessary.
• Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
• Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
• Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
• Ensure compliance with both company and client policies and procedures while being open to performance improvement.
• Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
• At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires specific physical abilities to ensure the Security Guard can effectively perform essential job duties. The candidate must be able to:

• Stand or Walk for Extended Periods: Ability to stand and walk for long shifts, often for several hours at a time, including traversing outdoor areas with uneven surfaces, without significant physical strain.
• Climb Stairs: Regularly climb stairs and navigate multi-level buildings to perform patrols and check all areas.
• Lift and Carry: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move or secure equipment, and assist with other duties as necessary.
• Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand various weather conditions during outdoor patrols, including hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
• Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and operate security equipment, such as radios, keys, and locks.
• Run or Move Quickly: Ability to sprint short distances if needed to respond quickly to emergencies or incidents.
• Physical Stamina: Capable of working long hours while remaining alert and focused throughout the shift. De-escalate stressful situations with professionalism and patience.
• Kneeling and Bending: Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend to check low-level areas, secure entrances, or assist in emergencies.
• Vision and Hearing: Strong vision and hearing to observe surroundings, monitor security systems, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.

Patrol and Surveillance:

• Perform regular patrols of assigned areas, including multi-level buildings and outdoor spaces, while standing or walking for extended periods
• Climb stairs frequently to inspect all areas thoroughly.
  
  

Incident Response:

• Respond swiftly to emergencies or incidents, including sprinting short distances if necessary.
• Use manual dexterity to operate security equipment such as radios, keys, and locks efficiently.
  
  

Equipment Handling:

• Lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds to assist with security tasks or emergencies.
• Secure heavy items or assist with moving necessary supplies as part of the role.
  
  

Situational Awareness:

• Utilize strong vision and hearing abilities to monitor surroundings, identify potential security threats, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.
  
  

Conflict Resolution:

• De-escalate stressful or potentially volatile situations with professionalism, patience, and effective communication skills.
  
  

Prolonged Alertness:

• Maintain focus and remain alert throughout long shifts, ensuring the safety and security of the premises.
  
  

Emergency Preparedness:

• Assist in evacuations or other emergency responses, utilizing physical stamina and agility to support individuals in need.
  
  

Reporting and Documentation:

• Keep accurate and detailed activity logs, documenting all patrols, incidents, and observations during the shift.
• Prepare comprehensive reports for any incidents ensuring records are clear and precise for review.
