JOB TITLE: Head Football Coach/Athletic Director/TBD Teaching Duties
REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Principal
FLSA: Exempt
CONTRACT PERIOD: 9-month Teacher / 187-day / Coaching Supplements
SALARY SCHEDULE: Based on Board Approved Salary
DEADLINE: Position open until filled
JOB GOAL: Provide leadership to each student/athlete to achieve a high level of skill, an increased level of self-esteem, to develop and appreciate the values of discipline and sportsmanship and to maintain and improve athletic programs for the benefit of all student athletes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited educational institution.
- Certified by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
- Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state and federal law and the Board may require
- Head Coaching Experience, with Athletic Director experience preferred
- CDL with student bus and passenger endorsement
- In good standing with the Alabama High School Athletic Association
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate and provide leadership to continuously improve each sport and the overall athletic program.
- Supervise programs to ensure that all school programs comply with the requirements and procedures of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (including but not limited to eligibility).
- Attend athletic events (games, events, and practices).
- Communicate with the Superintendent, Directors, Principals, Assistant Principals, Coaches, Parents, Athletes, and AHSAA.
- Communicate and coordinate with Athletic Clubs.
- Work with coaches, principals, directors, and the superintendent to prioritize the needs of athletic programs.
- Work with principals to recruit high quality coaches.
- Provide feedback and formally evaluate each coach.
- Provide continuing education for coaches.
- Collaborate with principals when making coaching personnel recommendations to the Superintendent.
- Ensure that each sport has the equipment and coaching staff necessary to ensure safe and high quality athletic experiences for all athletes.
- Work with coaches to schedule and coordinate athletic events. Document and approve away games and events.
- Coordinate with the Director of Finance and manage athletic revenues, expenditures, and developing annual budgets.
- Oversee and coordinate with coaches for the purchase of equipment, uniforms, etc.
- Oversee communication, coordination, and collection of athletic fees.
- Oversee athletic fundraisers.
- Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
- Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach's sport
- Always enforces disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students
- Coordinate with coaches to ensure student eligibility and AHSAA compliance for all sports.
- Oversee athletic websites and maintain appropriate social media presence for athletics.
- Regularly inspect the conditions of all athletic fields and facilities and reports conditions and needs to the principal of the school.
- Coordinate and help manage all athletic related facilities, including facility used by system coaches and athletes, as well as tournaments, and outside groups that strengthen or enhance overall athletic program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
- Attend the annual AHSAA rules clinic.
