Bard Manufacturing Company, Inc., a leader in the HVAC industry, has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Apprentice at the Madison, GA facility.
1st Shift : Monday - Thursday, 6 : 00am - 4 : 30pm
Upon completion of the program the apprentice will report to 2nd Shift, Monday - Thursday, 4 : 30pm - 3 : 00am.
Summary :
The Maintenance Apprenticeship Program is a pathway for candidates interested in starting / advancing their career to become a journeyman maintenance technician. The Maintenance Apprentice works under the supervision of experienced maintenance staff to learn the skills needed to maintain and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, grounds, and exterior structures. Install and maintain machinery, fixtures, and utilities.
Apprentices graduating from this program will receive a journeyman certification from the state of Georgia.
The program's duration is 3 years (6,000 hours). During this duration, the selected candidates will receive onsite hands-on training and offsite training at machine manufacturers facilities. The selected apprentices will be required to attend Athens Technical College for their academic training. This academic training will be conducted during non-working hours.
The selected apprentices are required to complete classes / certifications as selected by Bard Manufacturing. The apprentices will be required to graduate with a minimum grade set by Bard Manufacturing.
Apprentices will also receive "hands on" training by our current maintenance mechanics and future journeymen.
An aptitude test is required for this position to evaluate level of skill and ability.
The Maintenance Apprentice is responsible for the following :
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Help with the routine maintenance of machinery, equipment, and buildings.
- Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
- Participate in the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of equipment.
- Support the replacement of worn or damaged components.
- Study and learn preventative maintenance procedures to ensure equipment and systems run efficiently.
- Observe experienced technicians during repair and maintenance tasks and gradually take on more responsibility
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and protocols when performing tasks.
- Help maintain a clean and safe work environment by following safety standards.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Attend formal training programs or classes (often part of an apprenticeship scheme) to learn technical skills.
- Document and report on progress and seek advice from mentors or supervisors to enhance learning.
- Complete projects or assignments as part of the apprenticeship.
- Work closely with other departments or teams (e.g., production or facilities management) to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other maintenance staff to address any issues or needs.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
- Report any issues, failures, or needed repairs to the supervisor or maintenance manager.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Team Lead, Supervisor, and Manager.
- Provide Building infrastructure support (interior & exterior)
- Ability to read and comprehend part drawings.
- Assist in installation of new equipment and removal of old equipment.
- Assist with implementation of new machine preventative maintenance procedures and scheduling in CMMS
- Assist with Implementation of new machine and existing machine LOTO procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent (some employers may prefer candidates with a background in a technical subject).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to define problems by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
Exceptional Oral and Written Communication Skills
Possess in-depth knowledge of production procedures and know how to use tools and operate machinery.
Physical Dexterity
Must be a quick learner and excellent coach to train their teammates.
Basic computer skills
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate a forklift.
