Bark and Purr Kennels is seeking a part time kennel assistant to fill vacant weekend shift. Must be able to fill the following hours:
Friday 2pm-8pm
Saturday 4pm - 8pm
Sunday 4pm - 8 pm
This is a part time position with fixed hours.
We are a small dog and cat boarding facility located just north of Pioneer Trail in New Smyrna Beach. This position includes just as much cleaning as it does play time with our furry guests. Please review the job description below before applying.
Essential Job Responsibilities
The Kennel Assistant is responsible for keeping the kennel facility running smoothly while ensuring the animals remain safe and well cared for. Specific duties for Kennel Assistant position include:
- Providing food and water to animals according to their individual care plans
- Cleaning the kennels and common areas, including lobby, kennel areas, bathroom, yards, grooming room, other areas as needed
- Performing “housekeeping” duties such as laundry, dishes and scooping feces in yard
- Providing enrichment and physical activity
- Observing animals and noting any concerns with their behaviors or health
- Grooming and bathing the animals
- Administering medications or supplements to animals
- Greeting customers, creating new boarding reservations, processing transactions and answering phone calls
- Documenting all care provided and any incidents that occur
- Opening/closing facility
- Restocking cleaning supplies
- Special projects or other tasks assigned by management
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Previous animal related experience a plus, but not mandatory.
- Understanding of animal behavior and animal care needs
- Ability to move animals, large and small, sometimes exceeding 100 lbs.
- Ability to move large bags of food or other supplies up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Ability to withstand loud noises and occasional foul odors
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Passion for animal welfare
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Techniques to soothe animals and keep them calm in tense situations
- Basic math and measurement skills to manage food, water and medications
- Ability to document care, behavior and incidents with the animals
Starting rate of pay
- Salary: starting at $15.00 hourly
