Who we need
Barkan Management Company is seeking a qualified, motivated, and experienced Maintenance Superintendent in the Cambridge Massachusetts area to oversee and effectively manage all maintenance responsibilities in a large residential building. The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the physical plant, including preventive, responsive, routine and emergency maintenance throughout the property.
Job tasks/responsibilities:
- Maintenance tasks such as: cycle painting - interior/exterior, electrical, plumbing, flooring, general carpentry, HVAC issues, window/glass repair, door/lock repair, minor repairs in common areas of the condominium, assisting to keep the grounds and common areas free of trash and debris, physical plant preventive, responsive, emergency and routine maintenance, inspecting grounds, buildings, and other community features throughout the property.
- Ensure top sanitary levels and cleanliness of the common areas including indoor gym, pool & spa.
- Maintaining current, accurate inventories of supplies and materials.
- Scheduling and performing service requests in a timely manner.
- Scheduling, performing, or supervising preventative maintenance program for on-site equipment based on operating manuals and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Completing special projects, tasks or duties as assigned.
- Performing emergency on-call service for after-hours maintenance-related issues as required.
- Fostering a positive and respectful attitude toward residents, vendors, and staff; working patiently, professionally and cooperatively.
- Communicating effectively with residents, fellow associates, vendors and supervisors.
- Conducting regular walk-throughs of the common areas of the association property to identify any maintenance, safety, or operational issues. Documenting any observed deficiencies or potential hazards.
- Ensuring adherence to safety and operating policies, standards and procedures.
- Supervise cleaning staff to ensure top sanitary levels and cleanliness of the common areas including indoor gym, pool & spa.
- Reports to the condominium’s general manager.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience Required: Minimum of three years of experience in building maintenance in a large residential building.
- Experience in various maintenance areas including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building operations.
- Preferably live within 30 miles of Cambridge, Massachusetts
- Previous customer service experience

- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Computer literate
Working Conditions:
- Hands-on repair and maintenance work constitutes a majority of time and duties.
- Must be able to move up to 50 pounds variable distances; mobility and flexibility to use ladders; ability to work outdoors in temperatures above 90 degrees or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit as assigned when necessary.
- Use of general maintenance equipment including but not limited to: hand tools, ladders, and required safety equipment.
