SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Seed Research Technician II will be responsible for assisting the seed research program in efforts to create superior varieties and supporting targeted goals and quality seeds. This position reports to 2nd Nature Product Development Manager.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in all aspects of small grains breeding, including field trials, seed preparation, field plot maintenance, data collection, harvesting of yield trial plots.
- Assist with on and off-station multi crop locations, including seed preparation, planting, note-taking, plot maintenance, harvest, and shipping of finished products to customers.
- Assist with maintenance of all site equipment such as seed conditioning devices, tractors, planters, combines, trucks, and trailers.
- Participate with team to successfully maintain quality standards
- Actively participate in Environmental Safety and Health program
- Purchasing necessary items for the site and keeping receipts for purchases along with completing a monthly expense report.
- Responsible for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, customer service and professionalism; responsible for promoting a positive image of the company and the research department.
- Ability to work extended hours under variable environmental and ergonomic conditions associated with planting, harvesting, and note taking.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATION/FORMAL TRAINING:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required
- Demonstrated computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Valid driver’s license
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English and work-related Spanish.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least two (2) year’s comparable experience in seed industry is desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge of good laboratory/ field research techniques.
- Experience operating agriculture equipment such as tractors, combines, sprayer, and cultivation equipment.
- Experience safely operating forklift, lift trucks, dollies and other loading and moving equipment used in warehouse operations.
- Ability to work extended hours under variable environmental and ergonomic conditions associated with planting, harvesting, and note taking.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May by required to work in outside weather conditions
- Flexibility to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Capable of lifting, carrying, and loading up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods; bend, stoop, push, pull and kneel frequently.
