What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sommelier position at Barlume?
The mission of LDV Hospitality is to bring la dolce vita, 'the good life' to all of our guests by providing authentic and charming hospitality experiences through our collection of extraordinary people and hospitality concepts.
The Sommelier is responsible for recommending wine varieties to our guests, supervising wine service, and collaborating with wine-makers to renew our selections and achieve better pricing.
Essential Duties:
• Recommend appropriate wine pairing for all meal service and bar service as requested
• Train staff, as needed, in any new offerings of wine for service
• Keep wine cellars/storage clean and free from debris
• Ensure wines are stored and served at the right temperature
• Return any and all wine bottles that arrive damaged or spoiled
• Serve wine according to the standards set forth by LDV Hospitality
• Use of various stemware and glassware aligned to correct drink as per LDV hospitality standards
• Assist General Manager in creating and updating wine list in coordination with chefs and Food and Beverage Manager
• Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service to all guests inclusive of eye contact, respectable conversation and smiling
• Practice highest regards for safety within all areas and with all materials
• Follow and adhere to all standards set for by the Department of Health (DOH) and appropriate Federal/State Liquor Control Boards
• Performs other related activities as assigned by General Manager
Skills & Qualification:
• Sommelier training or minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Sommelier in fine dining restaurants is required
• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Hospitality Administration is preferred, but not required
• NYC Food Handlers Certification
• Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics, which inspire team members to meet and exceed standards
• Polished personal presentation; grooming meets LDV Hospitality standards, as outlined by Employee Handbook
• Ability to utilize computer programs such as Gmail, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), POS and any additional systems
• Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system
• Must have considerable skill in math and algebraic equations using percentages
• Ensure that all staff are compliant with LDV Hospitality policies and procedures, as well as city, state and federal laws
• Organize and/or attend mandatory meetings (i.e. wine tasting day, "wine of the month" events, etc.)
• Maintains knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies
