Job Title: Underground Offsider
The Opportunity:
Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for an Underground Offsider to join our team at a project location 65 miles outside of Elko, Nevada. Reporting to the Underground Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the mining team to achieve the daily targets while working closely with the underground operators, ensure all tasks are meeting safety standards, targets and deadlines to maximize productivity and profitability.
Location: 65 Miles outside of Elko, Nevada
Shift: 7-days on / 7-days off rotation
Accommodation: Camp and meals provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate commitment to following all Mine site safety rules, procedures and regulations, while ensuring the safety of others.
- Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of Barminco.
- Collect, deliver and ensure all necessary materials are delivered as and when required.
- Assist Jumbo Operator to build ground support and perform boring operations underground such as the installation of rock bolts and mesh.
- Set up headings for providing ground support using mesh, split sets, and resin bolts.
- Observe experienced workers to gain and increase knowledge of methods, procedures, and performance standards; attain necessary skills to assist jumbo operator as required.
- Assists with face preparation for drilling.
- Assist with installation of ground support.
- Coupling and decoupling of jumbo power cables.
- Install lifter tube to lifters.
- Display a high level of standard to housekeeping with LV’s, storage areas underground and work areas.
- Install mine services and ventilation as required.
- Conduct risk assessment of job tasks.
- Record all shift report data correctly and on time (i.e. delays, locations, directions etc.).
- Document work performed, problems diagnosed, pre checks on all equipment and machinery used in the day and all other required paperwork.
- Immediately report problems/failures that may impact the team, or the company, to your Shift Supervisor.
- Maintain and demonstrate a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors, the client and all other personnel.
- Understand and comply with all PPE requirements in work areas.
- Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous underground mining experience would be preferred.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License; manual transmission experience an asset.
- Self motivated and energetic - Enjoys hard work and highly physical roles.
- Sound planning, time management and organizational skills.
- To attend all designated rostered days, punctuality with shift start times, timely commencement of work activities. Arrive fit for work every rostered shift.
- Willingness to be flexible and work in other roles.
- Team work, willingness to cooperate with and learn from the team is a must.
- The ability to work both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation is essential.
- Proven ability to recognize and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
- Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills.
- Eagerness to learn and grow.
- Ability to pass a Pre employment medical and drug/alcohol test.
Work Conditions:
- Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis (dayshift/nightshift), typically the rotations are 1 week on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 1 week off – working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
- Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required

- Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
